MBR of my HARD DISK

Friday, May 9th, 2008

I was struggling recently in wiping and restoring my MBR on my 2.5″ HDD, as I previously have LINUX install and many other OS that I have tested before.

Then finally I screw up, and was not able to use the HDD for quite some time.

But today have the time, and I take out the DISK for further torturing :)

Finally I found MBRWiz, a free tool that is offer by the generous author here : http://mirror.href.com/thestarman/asm/mbr/BootToolsRefs.htm

I hope someone who are facing the same problems would find this little piece of DOS software useful as well.

LAN DISK and usage in NETWORKING.

I am not sure if LAN DISK is getting popular or not, but to me, it’s really one of a good device to have at HOME or in the OFFICE like the follow !

lan disk1

It looks quite messy though, cos I am very lazy to re-organise the cable….cos too many of them !!

Anyway, I use it as FTP and SAMBA mainly, keep most of my big files and backup for those important documents.

Backup, backup and backup is one of the hard lessons that I have learned previously, so I hope this will avoid me going through the same lesson again :(

On the other hand, with some software like VLC, foobar and many other that support media streaming, I could also play music or video through the network, and you can stream it anywhere, as you as you could connect to the router either by LAN cable or wirelessly.

This is especially useful if you have a lot of APE or CUE music files that is expanding continously !

Couple with LARGE and CHEAP LCD TV today, setting up a network home media center seems getting very simple now !

If control with a wireless keyboard with TV/DVD remote function, that would be great then :)

High Capacity Memory card

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Capacity for memory card is getting higher and higher, but price is getting lower and lower !!  Which is good for us as a consumer.

The most recent 8GB SDHC card (class 6) – A-Data with life time warranty, which I bought, only cost me around USD20/pc.

Thus, isn’t that would be wonderful that we could pack lots of content and entertainment in such a small card to bring with us everywhere we go :)

However, one thing that worries me, is that I might lost it as it’s just s small little card only !!
